What you’ll do
In virtually all enterprise productive landscapes, it is possible to identify personal data as a relevant part of business processes.
Quantitative data analysis on such business processes must therefore foresee special cares for personal data, as prescribed by many data protection legal frameworks (e.g. GDPR in Europe). However, in critical domains such HR or healthcare, it is often not possible to draw a clear separation between personal and non-personal data.
- The internship objectives consist of identifying the pieces of information that qualify as personal data in a privacy-sensitive communication and anonymizing such information using the appropriate techniques.
- During the internship, the intern will use different LLMs, following their rapid evolution and releases, with different approaches from zero-shot to few-shot learning, and evaluate the suitability of NLP tasks for anonymization, such as:
- automatic text summarization
- argument mining
- question answering
- and others to understand their performance and suitability for detecting personal data in the form of complex linguistic structures.
The evaluation will consist of setting up a business-relevant, realistic use case in one of the privacy-critical domains to evaluate how the different techniques perform against the identification of such personal data. This internship is research-oriented.

- Experience with NLP

- Good knowledge of Natural Language Processing techniques (transformers, text-to-text, LLMs)
- Fluency in English, spoken and written (working language)
